Instructions
1. Create a biography for your character. Decide what her name is, where she works and how she relates to her family. Include both the best day and the worst day in the character's life before the comic begins. Create a relationship chart for the main characters in the comic strip. 2. Choose the word that best describes the character. For example, a character defined by "justice," would treat everyone he meets fairly. He strives to see that everyone lives in a just world pursuing evildoers until they are caught. The character defining word can come from his biography or be something completely different.
3. Doodle for 15 minutes while thinking about the character's history and motive. Every character in the comic strip must be physically distinct. Height, weight, shape and proportions help define a character. Ideas, animals and universal concepts inspire character sketches. Pay special attention to each character's eyes. Readers will either bond with or disconnect with a character depending on his eyes.
4. Determine how the character expresses himself. Facial expressions, body language, favorite sayings and physical quirks define a character for the readers. Combining all of these qualities will create characters that live in your readers' imaginations.
