Decorate A Wood Wagon For Christmas

Turn a miniature wagon into a charming Christmas decoration.

A small wooden wagon evokes memories of childhood and Christmases past. Capture the nostalgia with a Christmas-themed wagon to display near the Christmas tree or by the fireplace, or wrap the wagon with cellophane and give it as a gift. Some decorative wagons are functional and can be used with dolls, but don't allow a child to ride in them. They aren't built to take a child's weight.

Instructions

1. Paint the wagon a glossy red, or leave the wood a natural color and paint just the trim. Let it dry completely.

2. Line the bed of the wagon with Spanish moss. Place a block of floral foam in the center and cover it with more Spanish moss.

3. Insert silk floral picks that fit your color scheme. Red poinsettias surrounded by greenery create a traditional look, or try other combinations such as blue and silver or gold and green for variety. Fill in the spaces around larger blooms with complementary flowers or decorative grasses.

4. Drape a fresh evergreen garland around the edges of the wagon. Attach it to the wagon with floral wire. Insert more floral picks in the garland, or wire fresh or dried fruits to it instead. Citrus fruits such as clementines and key limes are small enough to use whole on the garland and give off a pleasant scent. Secure a few small fruits in the floral arrangement with wooden skewers.

5. Twine a ribbon through the sides of the wagon and form a bow at the front. Secure it to the wood with floral or craft wire. Use wired ribbon to help an elaborate bow keep its shape.
