Produce A Running Motion Blur Effect

Add a blurring effect to your action photos to give them more impact.

Adding a blurring motion effect to your action photos can help give them more impact and effect. Using a photo editor such as Photoshop, you can easily edit the photo and add the motion blurring effect using its built-in tools. Even for amateurs and people new to graphic design, modifying your photo to include a motion effect is an easy procedure that should only require a few minutes of your time.

Instructions

1. Select the subject in your photo that will be receiving the motion effect by using the pen selection tool. Use the tool to draw an outline of the subject. Once outlined, it will be surrounded by a blinking dotted line.

2. Click on the "Edit" menu in the top bar of the Photoshop application window, then select "Copy." Click on "Edit" once again and then select "Paste."

3. Drag the copy over the original in the background and keep it selected. Click on "Filter" in the top bar of the Photoshop window and choose "Blur." Select "Motion Blur" to bring up the editing window. Set the "Angle" to approximately -40 and set the "Distance" to 35 pixels. Click on "OK" to add the effect to the picture.

4. Click on the "Layer Mask" button at the bottom of the Layers window in Photoshop. This button is the third button from the left.

5. Select the "Brush" tool from the Photoshop "Tools" window and ensure that its opacity is set to 100% by checking the bar at the top of the Photoshop window. Select the color black to use and begin painting over the subject. This will remove the motion blur effect from the subject, or anywhere else you paint using the Brush tool in your photo.
