The bases form a diamond shape.
Base field is short for baseball field, consisting of the classic diamond-shape of bases set within the arcs of the infield and outfield. First, second and third bases meet with home plate to form the diamond path. An arced section of dirt extends beyond first, second and third bases that is technically part of the infield. Standard baseball fields have 90 feet between bases. Draw a baseball field from an aerial perspective by following several steps.
Instructions
1. Draw a large quarter-circle shape that points downward. Draw its two straight lines with a ruler to form a right angle. The bottom point represents home base, the two lines represent foul lines and the curve represents the limit of the outfield.
2. Draw points about two-thirds of the way up the foul lines to indicate first and third base. They must be equally distant from home base. Draw straight lines extending from these points that are perpendicular to the the foul lines to indicate the lanes to and from second base. These two points must meet at a perpendicular angle in the center of the field to indicate second base. You now have the basic diamond shape of the bases.
3. Draw a small circle around home base to indicate the home-plate area. Draw a small pentagon to indicate home base and a small diamond shape at each base to show their surfaces.
4. Draw a semi-circle arcing between the foul lines that runs parallel to the outfield curve. It must extend just beyond first, second and third bases. This indicates the outer limit of the dirt area. Draw small semi-circles inside each corner of the base diamond. These indicate the inner limits of the dirt area.
5. Draw a small circle in the center of the diamond to show the pitcher's mound. Draw four lines inside the diamond that run close and parallel to each of its side. This form the area of the lanes between bases.
